Kindness Initiatives
Community Conversations
This program offers food, fun, and conversation about things that matter. Using the Reflective Structured Dialogue (RSD) model of conversation, Melrosians have the opportunity to break bread while sharing experiences and stories in a facilitated setting.
Kindness Porch Donations
Each month of the year, we collect donations for vulnerable populations on our Kindness Porches, located throughout the city. By collecting specific items, we bring visibility to the missions of other charitable organizations.
Kindness Day
Kindness is a year-long aspiration. On November 20th, we celebrate. Throughout the day, our city is energized with many big and small gestures of kindness. We’re changing the world, one kind act at a time.
Santa’s Helpers
During the holiday season, we facilitate the gift giving to our neighbors in need. Working from lists written by local children, our community of kindness warriors purchase and wrap presents, while MelroseKind coordinates the delivery to families.
Volunteer Connections
Still under development, this program will allow organizations that need volunteers to connect with community members interested in volunteer opportunities. Volunteer Connections is a shared initiative with The Bridge: A School/Community Partnership.
Pen Pals
In the early stages of development, this initiative pairs elementary school students with local senior citizens in a pen pal program, where each can get to know each other through writing.
Inspirational Events
In August 2023, MelroseKind hosted a community viewing of Come From Away with keynote speaker Kevin Tuerff. It was a wonderful night of community bonding with over 500 people in attendance. Kevin brought down the house with tales of his experience of kindness in Gander, Newfoundland, Canadda. We look forward to planning our next inspirational event celebrating the power of kindness.
Community Connections
Melrose and surrounding communities house some pretty amazing kindness warriors, both in organizations and in individuals. MelroseKind shares that goodness, through inspirational stories and introductions. When someone is looking for something good to do, they often come to us first. We make good deeds easy by connecting those who want to help with those who need help.
