Kindness is always in season

Thanks to each and every one of you for embracing kindness in your own unique way. We are overcome with gratitude for the incredible uptick in our Kindness Porch collections. As October rolls into November, we’re also thankful for the many ways you plan to celebrate Kindness Day on November 20th. When the world seems overwhelming, we are grateful for small blessings.

Dignity Matters
Our drive for Dignity Matters continues through October 31st. Our porches are open 24/7 and eager for your donations of sanitary pads:
– 89 Walton Park
– 160 West Wyoming
– 647 Main St (Follow Your Art)
– 249 Grove Street
– Amazon Wish List (tinyurl.com/MelroseKindWishList)

For this month’s feminine product drive, we’ll also accept donations at 132 East Foster Street. Lindsey Chisholm is Melrose’s Dignity Matters ambassador and we are grateful that she’ll accept donations year round — at the end of her driveway where the gate starts.

Period Poverty

Period Poverty exists beyond homeless shelters. According to a recent survey, almost 19% of female students on college campuses throughout Massachusetts have experienced it, reporting that they’ve had to decide between buying menstrual products and covering other expenses. Dignity Matters works directly with several local area colleges to provide menstrual products. One partner, MassBay Community College, estimates that together they support over 155 students monthly, collecting thousands of dollars worth of products.

Kindness Day Missions

Melrose Kindness Day is celebrated on November 20th and our team of volunteers has so many wonderful things planned. If you’d like to get in on the fun, and be assigned a specific mission to celebrate the kindness of others, please reach out to maribeth@melrosekind.com

If you are a member of a Boy or Girl Scout troop, a book club, a social group, any type of organization, or just an uber-kind individual, we’d love to give you a targeted way to show kindness in our community. In years’ past, our Kindness Missions have included bringing treats to the Post Office, cards of thanks (and candy!) to the Police and Fire Departments, flowers to Melrose Alliance Against Violence, and more. We’ve got many groups and individuals in Melrose to recognize. Let us know that you are on board to help!
